Comprehensive High-Speed Networking

The high-Speed networking class covers the following areas;

  1. CAN network signal levels and their importance to reliable operation. This section prepares for waveform analysis to diagnose network failures caused by failures that have been observed by our instructors. Many of these failures have caused diagnostics to consume excessive amounts of time and frequently result in repair attempts that swap modules without resolving the issues. One of the diagnostic examples used in the class was where a vehicle was in a shop for a week, but it took our instructor three hours to identify the root cause of the problem. It was an intermittent problem.

  2. The importance of termination resistors for proper network operation. Newer vehicles have changed the resistance testing that was effective in the past. We are going to walk you through the new procedure because they are important for detecting wiring problems when the correct procedure is used.

  3. Heavy-duty networking is included because the implementation of J1939 for heavy-duty and off-road equipment does not follow the same schedule as light-duty vehicles.

  4. Network case studies provide technicians with the experience of diagnosing these difficult problems that caused issues for shop technicians. This is unique to PFD classes since many training programs rely on diagnostics from shop service manuals. These problems were not envisioned by the service manual writers because they were not observed during vehicle development.

PFD Training Classes

PFD is currently scheduling the following classes nationwide;

Comprehensive High-Speed Networking

      This class covers the new CAN-FD already used on vehicles that is 4 times faster than high-speed             CAN. Advanced diagnostics cover procedures for networks with four or five high-speed CAN with            several medium-speed CAN networks. These vehicles have more than 30 modules, these are not              yesterday's networks.
